New Measurement: A Liter of Light

Liter of Light - Cost Effective and Pretty

Reuters features how a liter of light can bring light to the homes of the poor in Manila. All that's needed is a liter of water as well as some bleach. Install it in less than an hour and that's an illuminated home that will last at least 5 years.

Basically, the water refracts the light dispersing it into different directions. The bleach? It prevents algae from forming.

I think it's pretty, innovative, witty, cost-effective, yet simple.

Yes, it is powered by the sun and will probably work on daytime but it's a first step. I wonder how it illuminates with the moon. Soon enough, we're going to find some water solution that stores sunlight then illuminates at night! Just like your glow in the dark 'rubber'!
