Exclude Own IP from AWStats Results

Most webmasters find AWStats to be one of the best application to monitor traffic within your site. But if you're like any other webmaster who constantly visits your site and awstats cpanel, you should've already noticed that it's bound to consider your behavior within the site as well.

Exclude IP Address from AWStats

Including your own behavior within the stats could alter and distort the actual data you may want to find out about your visitors, which is why it is important for you to exclude your own IP from being monitored by the application.

You know your IP's being monitored when you see so much traffic going to your /admin folder when you know there should be nobody else but you who should be going there.

To exclude your IP, go to your /home directory. From there, go to "/tmp/awstats". There will be a domain there named "awstats.domainname.com.conf". Edit it and at the very bottom, add the line:

SkipHosts="xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"

...wherein you replace the x characters with your actual IP address like

SkipHosts="123.456.78.90"

However, if you have a dynamic IP address, you should use the following command:

SkipHosts="REGEX[^xxx\.xxx\.xxx\.]"

...wherein you also replace the x characters. Notice that there are only 3 sets of numbers to input. These are the first three octets resulting to

SkipHosts="REGEX[^123\.456\.78\.]"

Be sure to change permissions of your conf file to 444 from 644. It might be a bit of a problem using FTP for some as there are instances wherein no matter how many times you change the permission to 444, it automatically  reverts back to 644. To overcome this, just your the File Manager within your admin/cpanel.

To know your IP address, you can either go to SpeedTest or WhatIsMyIP
