Have a Selfless Christmas... please :) |
This entry ain't a scrooge post to burst your Holiday Spirit. It's just an insight on to how people tend to fool themselves being sadder than usual and why it shouldn't work that way.I've also come across childhood who believed in the magic of Santa Claus and the wonders of Christmas. But as time grows by, insights change and there are these pitiful scenes around that just aren't right. If you think about it, Christmas kind of puts the pressure in all of us. The thought that we should go out and do some shopping galore, buy each and every friend a gift, tell everyone you love how much they're dear to you, prepare that well-sought-after hamon and lechon, and prepare as much as you can. But what if you can't? That's when people start to get sad and too depressed thinking "I can't do all that... and it's Christmas." Now tell me, can't you do those things out of December 25? "But it's not the same," I hear you on that. But consider the fact that a lot of things, probably far greater events, have happened out of Christmas. The only comfortable thing about this is that most people are on vacation and families tend to find the perfect time to get together. Hmmmm... I think I'm starting to sound too hateful on this. Believe me, I'm not. It's just that part of me that feels sorry for the people who can't offer themselves a good feast on such a day believing that they should because it's kind of required since it IS Christmas. Do you get what I mean? When people meet unfortunate events as the 25th of December comes by, there's always that catch up phrase "and it's Christmas," giving more depth of sadness to what's already sad. It's kind of stupid though sad. Christmas made these people sadder than usual. Times have been trying enough to pull a lot of us down and we don't need that train of thought that will pull us 6 more feet down. Honeslty? I'm good enough to get into a bit of Holiday joy and festivities since it's part of our Filipino culture to celebrate this. But most of the times, I just part from too much of the materialism and commercialism attached. Rather than filling our house up with lights, ornaments, and presents, my family finds time to give out and reach. Not to sound too hyprocritical since we do spend some money too for ourselves. But most of the time, we find a lot more satisfaction giving to people who can afford less than we can. I remember those times when we celebrated Christmas on the road giving plastic bags of instant goods to beggars. Now, it's just a matter of having something to give when we get the chance and making sure we give to charity organizations since they know and do better at that kind of stuff. So try to look back on people - the maid who obeys every order, the security guard who stands by even as 12am strikes, the baggers of the supermarkets, the tellers on tollgates, the cashiers on those 24/7 stores, gasolineboys who stay to gas up people going home for Christmas, and all other people who can afford less than you can or maybe is not as fortunate as time would permit you. It's about time you think about them too and start sharing your blessings as a means of celebrating the birth if Jesus... that's what it is all about, btw, if you haven't thought about it. Bah.. I don't think I'm making much sense now. Just a mix of thoughts running through my head concerned with all other people around me. But hey, believe me, you'd be surprised how lovely the feeling is within when you put a smile on people's faces. Anyway, I wish you all have a blessed and happy Christmas, everyone. Hope you give more meaning to your Christmas celebrations rather than simply receiving gifts and buying more and more pleasures in your life. And whenever you think you're Christmas is a bit sad or incomplete, one thing - Learn to Think of Others :) |
