Does Domain Age Matter? |
Some of us have wondered if the age of the domain name does matter. Well, somehow it does.I've been thinking lately and on what new domains like mine currently think about on to why SEO efforts don't actually reflect well on SERPs. So I've done a little search and got the idea concerning how the age of your domain can actually affect your site's reputation. It matters in a way that when a domain is new, it's most likely that the site or blog in it is new. Chances are there are no, or not much links that go towards that URL. This being said, it's a matter of site trust. Search engines such as Google wouldn't go and rank your page instantly simply because it has content. Feeling lightheaded due to a 2hr sleep, I decided to hit the bed and started thinking more. Domain Age. Does it matter? Then ok I've thought of a reasonable comparison to put things on a simpler note. And here I am typing the ideas that might slip away during sleep. Let view it in a more easy and funny thought. Imagine you're a new student in a new school. You know nobody there and you're a complete stranger to this new world. That's what a domain is like. People are looking through you not paying much attention. The moderators (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc) of the school who manage the whole system don't bother knowing you much. You introduced yourself to them and yeah, they recognize the fact that you exist. And so you get your http://www.domain.com in the list but never actually get all other pages displayed - just the home page.
You know some things! You want to tell your content to the moderators and make a good impression and be recognized. But currently, you're a new guy. Plus the moderators are snobs to new guys. You are currently a nobody... and nobodies don't talk with the big guys. At the moment, you only talk to yourself discussing with your alter ego on how to gain the school's trust. Eventually, you will find friends. Friends who will share common interests, talk with you and probably holler back at you (your backlinks!). And if you be friendly enough, you'll find more and more friends who share the same interests. Probably even join a club, a network. So you have friends. You're recognized partially now. Then what? The moderators don't care much about that. People make friends all the time. What concerns them, however, is the reputation of the school. They want to provide the best students upfront! - (yes the students found on the 1st SERP, they're A+ Students) Interschool contests (searches) are normally held from time to time. Right now, what you can do is come up to be the most konwledgeable student and show off all the content you know utilizing all those keywords that would definitely impress. You are given a shot along with a few others to join the contest. Now's your chance! Remember to widen up that vocabulary to cope up with relevant matters and trends concerning topics covered by that contest. Don't try to pose as a smarty by filling youself up with words you don't even know. By the time you talk, you will talk a lot of gibberish that would surely make a fool out of yourself. You're keyword stuffing yourself. Soon enough, moderators will recognize you. By being one of the top students in a certain field, you will gain their respect. As a result, they turn to you whenever further contests come provided you're not letting yourself slip down the knowledge gaining game. There are certain instances wherein you're not a total stranger to the new school. You may have your cousin study there. Probably your mom teaches there. This was where you met your partner and a few friends before actually enrolling. These kinds of connections can greatly benefit a new student simply because it adds instant reputation and higher chances of acquiring your desired back links in a shorter period. Did you get my idea? Translating my story, you're a new domain that should put up your efforts. Be patient and crawl up slowly. Remember those guys and strangers out there who come up to you claiming they know the secret and could make you famous and be recognized by the moderators? Sounds a bit unlikely now, right? It's because it is unlikely. It's up to you to introduce yourself successfully to the web. Make online friends and do relevant back links. Update continuously and add more content to your database. Do not forget to maximize your keyword density and look up relevant terms and trends. Soon enough you'll be crawled, indexed, and listed appropriately like you've always wanted. Plus take into consideration that search engines carry with them a certain trust meter and lots of sites try to get a score on that. Be a good school boy and you'll steadily climb yourself up the charts. Domain age does matter. It does at certain aspects. It's up to you how long you'd stay new and unknown to the web. So better do more action towards your goal of maximum SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
