Warcraft III Patch Error

"An error has occurred preparing the patch. This problem can commonly be corrected by reinstalling the game and trying the update again. If this error repeats then contact Blizzard Technical Support."

Out of boredom I decided to go and download Garena and play LAN games with friends. However, my version of the game is outdated and I needed to update. The quote above is the error message I got when I tried to patch up my Warcraft III so I can play DOTA (Defense of the Ancients) once again.

Now upon researching, I found the solution other than the option of reinstalling the game and it requires administrative access to the Registry Editor.

Follow these steps:

Access Registry Editor by doing the Run Command (Start+Run/ Windows Key+R) then type "regedit" and hit Enter.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Go to Software
Go to Blizzard Entertainment
Click Warcraft III
While "Warcraft III" folder is chosen, on the right tab/window, I had only one item which is "(Default)".

Right click and choose "New » String Value". Name that "InstallPath"
Right click your new String Value and click "Modify".
On the field type the address to your Warcraft III folder. NOTE: Use double Slashes like "C:\\Program files\\Warcraft III" if you installed it on default. Otherwise just type the path towards your Warcraft III folder using double slashes (\\)
Once everything's ok, run the patch in your Warcraft III folder, just to be sure. Right click it and Run as administrator.

That's it. That should do the trick as it did work for me. Hope it works for you too :) Don't forget to get your latest dota map at GetDota!
